This past weekend was a pleasure because despite the dismal looking weather sunshine radiated from the love of these two individuals. Their journey to become one is soon to arrive and I am honored to have been called to shoot their engagement photos. This was not my first encounter with Noah and Holly but it was an opportunity to get to know them, their love and their joy. The weekend, despite the off and on rain, was beautiful because I was surrounded by a core of good loving people (my assistant was my best friend and I always enjoy witnessing her newly established marriage).
It started in Washington, D.C., the U Street neighborhood, this area has so much character and sends out a vibe that draws a variety of cultures, personalities and spirits. The day life and night life are worlds that provide a cultural fusion, not to mention tradition and class, so it was a perfect setting to represent our engaged lovers.
We walked to Meridian Park about four blocks from where Noah and Holly reside and we had a companion with us as well. Kona, who was a delightful bundle of energy for our early start. Once we entered the park I was amazed by the landscape right within this beautiful city, so it was easy to see why Holly and Noah suggested this be our first stop. It was fairly empty on the Sunday morning and that's how we liked it. I was hoping the rain would hold off for the duration of our shoot and it did a good job resisting to fall until about halfway through. Luckily, our dog friend was able to rest by that time.
Once we changed, hydrated, and energized (coffee) for out next location we headed out to, you guessed it, U Street. Along our beat and path we pasted historical structures, landmark restaurants and semi-busy streets. Fortunately, a car, a spectator or an intersection didn't stop Noah and Holly from displaying their love in the most natural of fashion. Even Chuck Brown, Bill Cosby, and President Obama (murals) got to witness this connection.
All in all, I am pleased that with mist and clouds, sunshine broke through with smiles, kisses and affection that will speak volumes. I hope that the experience is as memorable for them as it was for me, and extend my gratitude for being their photographer.
